Now, Google+ was launched at the end of June, and the whole thing was built off of being a competitor to Facebook. It was a big thing for awhile!! Everyone was clamoring for invites to it. And then by August, most people had forgotten about it entirely. Until Facebook’s recent redesign, that is, when it just so happened to be launched to the public and whiney kids complaining about change jumped ship over. Essentially, if you’re unaware, Google+ is based around “Social Circles”, which is a direct copycat of Facebooks “Groups” feature. You can have 10 way webcam chats and instant message. More or less that’s the extent of it. Oh! And it’s design is the simple layout that you’ve come to expect from Google products.

Facebook is soon to be partnering with Apple, thus joining 2 of the most powerful and visible companies in the world. It will (likely) be integrated into the iOS 5 operating system and will be central to the new iPhone, which will (probably) be released next week. It’s recent redesign was bitched about like it always is, or like how any website redesign is, just because people don’t like change. And it’s going to be changing yet again next week! At it’s core though, Facebook has kept the same basic functions and features since the beginning, but it keeps adding cool stuff. You can video call on it!! You can share music on it now! Creeping on your friends is easier than ever! And next week, you can use it as if its an actual, honest to goodness timeline of your entire LIFE.

I’m not gonna sit here and pretend to be an expert on Google+. Or Google itself. I do know that Google has tried this sorta thing twice before, though, and it failed both times. Remember Google Wave? that thing that let you share files and merge all your google accounts into one against friends? No? That’s because it failed. What about Google Buzz? The companies first real attempt at building a social network, that you were forced into joining if you had a GMail account, that shared ALL your personal information with everyone and you couldn’t do anything about it? No? That’s because it failed. So histories not on Google’s side. And, if you care about this sorta thing, Google stores and, essentially, gives out ALL your search information to companies and Google+ is just one step closer to making that public to EVERYONE. Not that Facebooks perfect by any means, as its own security is often scrutinized by the media. But they just show your profile to companies so that the ads you see on the side of the screen are more tailored to you.

So I’m a little biased on this issue. I like Facebook! I’ve had one for 4 years. It’s comfortable, it’s not going anywhere (like Myspace did), it’s only gonna get more and more ingrained into everything we do on the internet. And it’s soon to be (likely) integrated into the most popular smartphone in the world, as well as the most visible Tablet in the world. I’m sure there are parts of Google+ that are better than Facebook, but at the end of the day the only reason it’s there is to increase Googles already massive profile and to control how the web is viewed. To me that just seems too controlling. But that’s just my opinion.

Got that out of your system now? Good. Now, unlike past hiatus’s in our brief history, this one was not spurred by anything in particular, but rather just general lack of direction. You see, we’ve been branching out into everything-TV, Movies, Books, Video Games, Sports, Music, Politics, overall Pop Culture, Internet memes, it just became overwhelming. So we’re focusing mostly on Entertainment and Sports. And more Entertainment than sports, at that.

Now, what does this mean? Eh…not all that much. Mostly the purpose of this was just to inform you that we’re coming back. Soon. Probably tomorrow. so. COME BACK TO US, READERS.

Yesterday, a government building in Norway was rocked by a massive blast, leaving several dead or wounded, and later a man opened fire on a youth camp, killing 94 with the toll rising. Today, singer Amy Winehouse was found dead in her London Apartment after an apparent drug overdose at the age of 27. Both things are varying degrees of tragic; Winehouse because she was at such a young age and was immensely talented, and Norway for obvious reasons. Clearly what happened in Oslo yesterday is more important in the grand scheme of things, but still, its sad someone as talented yet troubled as Winehouse is no longer with us.

However, something weird happened on the internet today, and thats everyone decrying those mourning Winehouse BECAUSE of the tragedy in Norway, such as whoever the fuck this guy is, which has been floating around twitter and copied into a bunch of facebook statuses today

On the one hand its an undoubtedly true statement, as the whole Norway thing is tragic and awful and whatnot, and again, worse than a junkie pop singer dying. Nobody is ACTUALLY denying this. But on the other…get off your high fucking horse. Guess what? People can care about more than one thing at once! Shocking, right? The human conscious can be deeply disturbed by the actions of terror in Norway yesterday and can be bummed out that Amy Winehouse died AT THE SAME TIME. Nobody is immediately forgetting about yesterdays tragedy, fuckwits. I cannot speak for all of mankind, but I HIGHLY doubt anybody that was aware of the Norway tragedy immediately vaporized it from their mind when they heard the girl that sang Rehab died.

Maybe I’m giving people too much credit, but holy shit guys. You can care about both things! You all have the ability to be sad and disturbed that 100 people were senselessly slaughtered in a far away country nobody ever really thought much about prior to yesterday AND be sad that one of the better, noncookie cutter pop stars died way too young. It IS possible.

So please. Go about your day. Think about Norway. And if you want to, think about Amy Winehouse. You’re allowed to do both. It isn’t that hard.

Anyway, I guess as part of continued promotion for his awful fucking Transformers movies, Shia reveals that he ‘turned down’ a number of leading roles including, but I’m just gonna assume not limited to: The Social Network, 127 Hours, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and The Bourne Legacy. Also in the article he goes on to complain about the fact that he chose to star in the Wall Street sequel, and the fourth Indiana Jones movie. Also we learn that Shia is leaving the Transformers franchise, because he has NOTHING LEFT TO GIVE IT ANYMORE. He also wants Warran Beatty type game changers. I’m not even gonna add any commentary to this information. It speaks for itself, people

Anyway, Celebrities on twitter were all in a huff more so for some reason, and Buzzfeed picked out a good selection of them (Frankie Muniz is my favorite because literally nobody thought she was innocent), but Kim Kardashian’s struck me as the strangest. Now I’ve taken issue with the Kardashians before, but…I’ll just present this.

For those unaware, Kim’s father (not Bruce) was Robert Kardashian. Robert Kardashian was one of the attorneys for OJ Simpson. The entire REASON that Kim has any sort of fame. So. Ya know. Irony!

On a related note…Do we REALLY fucking care? Yes, it’s awful that a little girl got killed. But these things happen literally all the time. Parents kill or abuse their children every day, and a shocking amount of time they get away with it, and oftentimes its not on National TV like this. Put down your god damn pitchforks. Was she guilty? I dunno. I wasn’t watching the trial. I like the odds that YOU weren’t watching it either. This was not a case of the “justice system” failing, or the “jury being wrong”, this was a god damn fine defense team and the prosecution providing shitty evidence. From what I’ve gathered, from watching like an hour of analysis after the verdict. At anyrate, the verdict does not affect you. It does not prevent any other children from being killed. It doesn’t bring the child back to life. Why do any of us need “justice” for the little girl? The rest of the family, her grandparents, sure, but us? Why the fuck do we care? can we all shut up now
